FEAST Film Nights – monthly at the Book and Record Bar

– another volunteer-run initiative from West Norwood Feast.

For our next screening, FEAST Film Nights presents:

LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS

“What do you want from me – blood?”

Starring Rick Moranis and Ellen Greene

Saturday, April 29th at 8pm

at The Book and Record Bar, 20 Norwood High St, SE27 9NR

We present Little Shop of Horrors, Frank Oz’s riotous 1986 version of the hit off-Broadway musical.

Nerdy florist Seymour (Rick Moranis) works in a little shop on New York’s skid row. He’s secretly in love with his colleague Audrey (Ellen Greene) so when he acquires a most unusual plant, he calls it “Audrey II” and its fame saves the shop from closure. But Audrey II really isn’t of this earth at all. It’s a mean, green mutha from outer space and it’s capital-B Bad…

Featuring Steve Martin as Audrey’s sadistic boyfriend and appearances by Bill Murray, John Candy and more, this Pinewood-shot musical has a fantastic score – featuring the voice of Levi Stubbs from the Four Tops as Audrey II. Come and see whether one little plant can dominate the world…

Please watch this space for more details of this screening

Feast Film Nights bring together people who love films and their community, in an area of south London that currently has no cinema (for a few months more, at least). This volunteer group now gets together to programme and show interesting, classic, quirky or cult films and documentaries monthly in the Book & Record Bar.

Since Feast Film Nights got underway with screenings at the Portico Gallery in 2014, the emphasis has been not just on the film itself but on the whole ‘getting together’ experience. As well as the features we’ve had DJs, live music & soundtracks, short films, intervals with themed drinks and food – and all for much less than going to a commercial cinema.

If you like the sound of this – please get involved! Email the group at filmnights@westnorwoodfeast.com

… or just come along to a film night and tell us how you’d like to help out.

You can also subscribe to our Facebook events to get reminders of screenings.

the warriors

“They’ve got one way out…. and one night”.

The Book and Record Bar and FEAST Film Nights present a screening of Walter Hill’s 1979 cult classic The Warriors.

The drama plunges headlong into New York’s gang warfare. When a move to unify the city’s gangs proves fatal, one – the Warriors – is blamed. They begin an odyssey: to fight their way past all the other gangs and get home.

The Warriors is a controversial revamp of an Ancient Greek mythological tale with an epic soundtrack and outlandish costume design.

In addition to the film screening we have DJs Keyboard Masher and Matthew Court who will be playing music from and inspired by the film – funk, soul, disco, synth, pop, punk, new wave, no wave, early hip-hop and house until 1am.

Keyboard Masher aka Kenny Wisdom is the man partly responsible for the KM Editions, Keyboard Masher and Pleasure Unit and Pleasure Wave 12s that you may have seen in all good record shops since 2010 (and still releasing edits and original tracks today)

He also used to run the Keyboard Masher blog which featured rare and obscure disco / Balearic cuts from around the world.

And he also co-produced one of the best house records of recent times here

If you want to get listening to one of his mixes then this beauty from the excellent Test Pressing website will do the trick nicely.

Matthew Court is a music journalist and collector of vinyl from all around the world and a fine DJ to boot.

He has written articles for the much respected Wax Poetics website and also Shook mag. You can sample some of his insightful writing here.

Can you dig it?
