FEAST’s very own Michael Johnson, aka ‘The Record Man’, will be hosting the Grand Opening of his Book and Record Bar on Saturday 31 August 2013, from 10am. The Book and Record Bar, at the old Gipsy Queen pub, 20 Norwood High Street, SE27, will be West Norwood’s newest coffee shop selling second hand fiction and vinyl records
Michael has been selling records at FEAST’s Retro Village since the very first market and has been known as ‘The Record Man’ almost from the begining. He has spent 40 years putting his collection of books and 8,000 records together, starting with money from a paper round. Michael also helps to compile and update the Rare Record Price Guide.
To mark the Grand Opening on Saturday, the Book and Record Bar has a drinks and music licence for the day, with local DJ, West Norwood Cassette Library at 4pm, and local band, Metanomo at 7.30pm (£5 ticket).
We think Michael has done a terrific job in getting the shop ready, he is possibly the first FEAST trader to move from market stall to bricks and mortar shop! Michael would also like to say a big thank you to the owners of the Gipsy Queen, H. A. Marks, for going above and beyond the call of duty in refurbishing the building.
