- FEAST 1st Sunday of the month, 10am–4pm
This June it’s all about World Feast and we’ll be celebrating West Norwood’s diversity and discovering the world within our community. From international food to interactive spaces for you to chat about where you come from and what languages you speak, come and say hello this weekend.
June’s Feast is a colourful World Feast! West Norwood is a very diverse a neighbourhood and will be asking Feast goers to mark on world maps where their family, friends and West Norwood neighbours are from. We hope to create an image out of this which shows how many different nationalities and languages there are in our neighbourhood. The world within West Norwood!
Unleash your creative side and make your own flag! Whether it’s related to a country you’re connected to, or West Norwood themed, we want your designs. We’ll be displaying the day’s efforts in the Family Hub.
Entertain the family with international games for the whole family, including our supersized chess set!
Want to create a garden indoors? Brand new to the Artisan hub this month is The Plant Lab, who will be selling Terrariums – plants in glass vessels using house plants – and hand cast concrete pots. Animal illustrator Kate Viggers of Eight Bear will also be there, selling prints, alphabet cards and toy blocks.
Interested in gut health? Love Fermentation has been created by a Herne Hill based nutritionist who makes kimchi which is traditionally fermented for 2-3 weeks to create beneficial bacteria. The stall will be selling traditional kimchi, vegan kimchi and daikon radish kimchi.
If you’re a fan of the Curry Cook House, then it’s worth checking out their new vegan stall at Feast. Called Veganauti, they’ll be selling vegan burgers inspired by a range of flavours and cuisines. On the menu are their pakora burgers, Mediterranean burgers with vegan mayo pesto and smoky beetroot burgers.
Loved last month’s green theme? House of Funky Junk’s whole ethos is about reusing, repurposing and recycling materials. Their products are made entirely from preloved fabrics and materials. Find their stall at the Family Hub. Plus WiNGiT: an under 21 open mic performance space from 1pm-3pm + The Rock296 DJs
For all things pre-loved, head to the Retro hub. This month Little Rebel Vintage will be selling upcycled children’s vintage furnishings and accessories, and StaceyDoesVintage will be there showcasing vintage accessories, collectibles and kitchenalia.
In keeping with our World theme, the Portico Gallery will be hosting an interactive display of the connections between West Norwood and the Caribbean islands. This will be on display from Feast Sunday until October’s Black History Month.
A favourite fixture at Feast, this month Poetry Slabs returns to the Old Library from 2:30pm-3:30pm with the theme of Jamaican Gems. Listen to readings from Claude McKay, Shara McCallum, Colin Channer and Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze.
Hosted by Portico Gallery, Silence Is Over is an exhibition by a group of female artists highlighting coercive control and sexual abuse. The exhibition will be running from June 29 – July 3.
